Provided is a honeycomb structure which has joining material layers that exhibit stress relaxation function and joint strength equivalent to those of a conventional joining material layer for a honeycomb structure and which exhibits excellent thermal shock resistance. A honeycomb structure (100) is provided with multiple honeycomb segments (4) and joining material layers (13) which join the honeycomb segments (4) together in such an adjacently arranged state that the sides of adjacent segments (4) face each other and which have multiple pores. Each of the honeycomb segments (4) has: porous partition walls which extend from one end of the honeycomb structure (100) to the other end thereof and which partition and form multiple cells that act as flow channels for a fluid; and an outer periphery wall which is located in the outermost periphery and so arranged as to surround the partition walls. In the honeycomb segments (4), prescribed cells have sealed parts respectively on the inlet-side end and the residual cells have sealed parts respectively on the outlet-side end. In the joining material layers (13), pores such that the value obtained by dividing the maximum diameter by the minimum diameter is 1.2 less account for at least 60% of all the pores.
