Abstract:
(EN) A method and transmitter and receiver for determining and transmitting or receiving a non-uniform QAM signal comprises selecting a signal to noise ratio for a channel and forward error corrector and then determining positions of constellation points that maximise a measure of channel capacity at the selected signal to noise ratio. The position of one constellation point and another constellation point within the constellation are constrained to be equal to one another prior to determining the positions of the constellation points. In doing so, a so called condensed QAM constellation arrangement may be derived having fewer than conventional number of constellation points for a given QAM scheme. The condensed QAM arrangement has improved performance at certain signal to noise ratios.
(FR) L'invention concerne un procédé, un émetteur et un récepteur qui permettent de déterminer et d'émettre ou de recevoir un signal QAM non uniforme et qui impliquent la sélection d'un rapport signal sur bruit pour un correcteur d'erreurs dans le canal et d'erreurs sans voie de retour, puis la détermination des positions des points de constellation qui maximisent une mesure de la capacité de canal avec le rapport signal sur bruit sélectionné. La position d'un point de constellation et la position d'un autre point de constellation dans la constellation doivent être identiques avant la détermination des positions des points de constellation. Ainsi, il est possible d'obtenir ce que l'on appelle un agencement de constellation QAM condensé qui possède moins de points de constellation que le nombre de points de constellation habituel pour un schéma QAM donné. Cet agencement QAM condensé présente de meilleures performances avec certains rapports signal sur bruit.
