Abstract:
(EN) An applied electrical field effects the harvesting of algae from a growth medium through increased interface potential between solvent and solute and the use of micron-sized bubbles of hydrogen and oxygen gas. The process and method makes use of strategically placed bipolar electrode plates that generate hydrogen and oxygen gas. Micro bubbles of the gas flocculate the biomass out of solution concurrently clarifying the water for re-use in an algae growth system. The flocked algae can then be processed for use in applications which require a chemical-free and dewatered product such as required for bio-fuels, pharmaceuticals or food.
(FR) L'application d'un champ électrique permet de récolter des algues se trouvant dans un milieu de culture par augmentation du potentiel en interface entre le solvant et le soluté et utilisation de bulles micrométriques de gaz d'hydrogène et d'oxygène. Le processus et le procédé font intervenir des plaques d'électrode bipolaires disposées stratégiquement qui produisent du gaz d'hydrogène et d'oxygène. Les microbules de gaz entraînent la floculation de la biomasse à partir de la solution tout en clarifiant l'eau pour une réutilisation dans un système de culture d'algues. Les algues floculées peuvent ensuite être traitées pour être utilisées dans des applications nécessitant un produit exempt d'agents chimiques et d'eau, tels que les biocarburants, les produits pharmaceutiques et la nourriture.
