A control apparatus for a hybrid vehicle (1) provided with an engine (10) and a motor generator (20) as power sources is provided with: a travel mode selection means that selectively switches between an EV travel mode for travelling with the drive force from the motor generator (20) and an HEV travel mode for travelling with the drive force from the motor generator (20) and the engine (10), and that causes the engine to be stopped after the elapse of a preset delay time when switching from the HEV travel mode to the EV mode; a reception means that receives information about an accelerator stepped-down area indicating an area identified on map data in which the accelerator was stepped down in a plurality of vehicles; a management means that manages the position of the hybrid vehicle (1); and a delay time control means that causes the engine (10) to be stopped before the elapse of the delay time when the position of the hybrid vehicle (1) does not belong to the accelerator stepped-down area.
