Abstract
(EN) Processes for preparing N,N,N-trimethylethanolammonium hydroxide (choline hydroxide) and the choline hydroxide produced are described. These processes minimize the production of byproduct mono-ethoxylated and di-ethyoxylated choline in the product choline hydroxide. The processes generally include feeding ethylene oxide, trimethylamine, and water into a first reactor to create a first reactor product under temperature controlled conditions. The product of the first reactor is fed into a second reactor to form a second reactor product under uncontrolled, adiabatic, conditions. Finally, any unreacted trimethylamine in the second reactor product is removed to form a final product comprising choline hydroxide. Additional reactors can be used for the ethylene oxide and trimethylamine reaction.
(FR) L'invention porte sur des procédés de préparation d'hydroxyde de N,N,N-triméthyléthanolammonium (hydroxyde de choline) et sur l'hydroxyde de choline ainsi produit. Ces procédés réduisent à un minimum la production de sous-produit choline monoéthoxylée et diéthoxylée dans le produit hydroxyde de choline. Les procédés comprennent, de manière générale, l'introduction d'oxyde d'éthylène, de triméthylamine et d'eau dans un premier réacteur pour former un produit de premier réacteur dans des conditions régulées en température. Le produit du premier réacteur est introduit dans un second réacteur pour former un produit de second réacteur dans des conditions adiabatiques non régulées. Enfin, toute triméthylamine n'ayant pas réagi, présente dans le produit du second réacteur, est éliminée pour former un produit final comportant de l'hydroxyde de choline. Des réacteurs supplémentaires peuvent être utilisés pour la réaction d'oxyde d'éthylène et de triméthylamine.
