A vehicle electrical system comprises a generator, voltage regulator, switch module, and control device. The generator includes a field coil and one or more stator windings coupled together via the switch module. The generator provides electrical current to one or more electrical loads. The voltage regulator maintains the generator output voltage at a constant voltage by varying the field current. The switch module may include low-power transistors. The control device monitors the field current, output: voltage and stator current and applies control signals to the switch module to improve transient recovery due to sudden variations in the electrical load and increase system efficiency during normal operation.

Selon l'invention, un système électrique de véhicule comprend un générateur, un régulateur de tension, un module de commutation et un dispositif de commande. Le générateur comprend une bobine de champ et au moins un enroulement de stator qui sont couplés entre eux par le biais du module de commutation. Le générateur fournit un courant électrique à au moins une charge électrique. Le régulateur de tension maintient la tension de sortie du générateur à un niveau constant en variant le courant de champ. Le module de commutation peut comprendre des transistors à faible puissance. Le dispositif de commande surveille le courant de champ, la tension de sortie et le courant de stator, et il applique des signaux de commande au module de commutation afin d'améliorer le rétablissement transitoire lié aux brusques variations de la charge électrique et d'augmenter l'efficacité du système au cours du fonctionnement normal.
