Abstract
(EN) A method and system(s) are disclosed for integrating a new fuel into an operating transportation system in a continuous, seamless manner, such as diesel fuel being gradually replaced by compressed natural gas ("CNG") in long haul trucks. Integration can be implemented using two enabling technologies. The first is an engine system capable of operating seamlessly on two or more fuels without regard to the ignition characteristics of the fuels. The second is a communications and computing system for implementing a fueling strategy that optimizes fuel consumption, guides the selection of fuel based upon location, cost and emissions and allows the transition from one fuel to another to appear substantially seamless to the truck driver.
(FR) L'invention porte sur un procédé et sur un ou plusieurs systèmes qui permettent d'intégrer, d'une façon continue et fluide, un nouveau carburant dans un système de transport fonctionnel, par exemple un carburant diesel qui est progressivement remplacé par du gaz naturel comprimé (« GNC ») dans des camions sur long parcours. L'intégration peut être mise en œuvre à l'aide de deux technologies de pointe. La première est un système de moteur pouvant fonctionner sans heurt avec deux ou plusieurs carburants, quelles que soient les caractéristiques d'allumage des carburants. La seconde est un système de communications et de calcul pour mettre en œuvre une stratégie de carburation qui optimise la consommation de carburant, qui guide la sélection de carburant sur la base de l'emplacement, du coût et des émissions, et qui permet à la transition d'un carburant à un autre de se faire sensiblement sans heurt pour le conducteur du camion.
