Abstract
(EN) A method for estimating a distance includes: generating an optical signal having a wavelength that is within a wavelength range, the optical signal modulated via a modulation signal having a modulation frequency; transmitting the modulated optical signal from a light source into the optical fiber, the optical fiber in contact with a moveable strain inducing element located at the position along the optical fiber, the optical fiber including a plurality of sensing locations configured to reflect light within the wavelength range when under strain from the strain inducing element and transmit light within the wavelength range when not under strain from the strain inducing element; receiving a reflected signal including light reflected from at least one of the sensing locations; demodulating the reflected signal with a reference signal to generate reflected signal data; and determining the distance to the position along the optical fiber based on the reflected signal data.
(FR) Procédé permettant d'estimer une distance et consistant à générer un signal optique ayant une longueur d'onde qui se trouve dans une plage de longueur d'onde, le signal optique modulé par un signal de modulation présentant une fréquence de modulation; faire passer le signal optique modulé d'une source lumineuse dans une fibre optique, la fibre optique étant en contact avec un élément induisant une contrainte mobile situé en une position donnée sur la fibre optique, la fibre optique comprenant une pluralité d'emplacements de détection conçus pour refléter la lumière à l'intérieur de la plage de longueur d'onde lorsqu'ils sont soumis à la contrainte induite par ledit élément et pour transmettre la lumière à l'intérieur de la plage de longueur d'onde lorsqu'ils ne sont pas soumis à la contrainte induite par ledit élément; recevoir un signal par réflexion comprenant la lumière réfléchie par au moins un emplacement de détection ; démoduler le signal réfléchi au moyen d'un signal de référence pour générer une donnée de signal réfléchi ; et déterminer la distance par rapport à la position sur la fibre optique, sur la base de la donnée de signal réfléchi.
