Abstract
(EN) A tubular membrane module and its method of manufacture are disclosed wherein tubular membranes form an interference self-sealing fit with hard tube sheets with the aid of a hard hollow mandrel inserted at the end of the tubular membranes. The tubular membranes are comprised of porous, compressible PTFE and/or fluorocopolymers. The self-sealing method described herein requires no heat treatment, allows for ease of manufacture without destruction of the tubular membranes and without the processing complexity of utilizing any additional potting agent, extrusion, or chemical cross-linking of any polymeric adhesives. The self sealing PTFE tubular membranes have superb chemical resistance and temperature resistance, and through the benefits of this invention, offer higher pull-out resistance than typically observed with potting materials such as polyurethane and epoxy. In addition, the self- sealing method is reversible and non-destructive (whereas chemical potting and sealing methods using heat are not), as one can easily remove one or more damaged tubes and replace them.
(FR) Cette invention concerne un module de membranes tubulaires et son procédé de fabrication, lesdites membranes tubulaires formant un ajustement auto-obturant par interférence avec feuillets tubulaires durs au moyen d'une matrice creuse dure insérée à l'extrémité des membranes tubulaires. Les membranes tubulaires sont constituées de PTFE et/ou de fluorocopolymères compressibles poreux. Le procédé d'auto-obturation décrit ici ne nécessite aucun traitement thermique, il facilite la fabrication sans destruction des membranes tubulaires et sans utilisation complexe d'un agent supplémentaire d'enrobage, d'extrusion ou de réticulation chimique des adhésifs polymères. Les membranes tubulaires en PTFE auto-obturantes présentent une résistance thermique et une résistance chimique considérables, et permettent une résistance à l'arrachement supérieure à celle observée avec les matériaux d'enrobage tels que le polyuréthane et l'époxy. Le procédé d'auto-obturation est réversible et non destructeur (contrairement aux procédés d'enrobage et d'obturation chimiques), un ou plusieurs tubes endommagés pouvant être facilement retirés et remplacés.
