A method for use in controlling light transmission through a medium comprises transmitting light from a single spatial portion of an input optical field through the medium to create an output optical field, superposing the output optical field with a reference optical field to create an optical interference field, detecting an intensity of a spatial portion of a polarisation component of the optical interference field and using the detected intensity to determine a value of an optical field amplitude and a value of an optical field phase for each of a plurality of spatial portions of the input optical field and for each of first and second orthogonal input polarisation states of the transmitted light entering the medium. The method may be used in the control of the transmission of light through a medium which is randomising in amplitude, phase and/or polarisation. The method may be used in the control of the transmission of light through a multi-mode fibre. The method may be used for beam shaping, optical trapping and/or optical manipulation.

Cette invention concerne un procédé de contrôle de transmission optique à travers un support, comprenant les étapes consistant à : transmettre une lumière à partir d'une partie spatiale unique d'un champ optique à travers le support pour créer un champ optique de sortie, superposer le champ optique de sortie à un champ optique de référence pour créer un champ d'interférence optique, détecter une intensité d'une partie spatiale d'une composante de polarisation du champ d'interférence optique, et mettre en œuvre l'intensité détectée pour déterminer une valeur d'une amplitude de champ optique et une valeur d'une phase de champ optique pour chacune des parties spatiales du champ optique d'entrée et pour chacun des premiers et seconds états de polarisation verticale de la lumière transmise à l'entrée du support. Le procédé de l'invention peut être mis en œuvre pour contrôler la transmission optique à travers un support à amplitude, phase et/ou polarisation aléatoire. Ledit procédé peut en outre être mis en œuvre pour contrôler la transmission optique à travers une fibre multimode. Ledit procédé peut enfin être mis en œuvre pour le modelage du faisceau, le piégeage optique et/ou la manipulation optique.
