In its broadest aspect, a method for treating a mammalian patient at risk or suffering from a disease caused by a kinetoplastid parasite comprises administering to such subject an effective kinetoplasticidal amount of an imido-substituted 1,4- naphthoquinone to inhibit the kinetoplastid. In an important aspect, a method of inhibiting Trypanosoma cruzi comprises administering to a patient for prophylaxis or to a patient in need of treatment an antitrypanosomal effective amount of an imido-substituted 1 A-naphthoquinone.

La présente invention concerne, dans sa plus large portée, une méthode de traitement d'un patient mammifère risquant de souffrir ou souffrant d'une maladie provoquée par le parasite cinétoplastide. Ladite méthode comprend l'administration audit sujet d'une quantité cinétoplasticide d'une 1,4-naphtoquinone imido-substituée efficace pour inhiber le cinétoplastide. Dans un aspect majeur, l'invention porte sur un procédé d'inhibition de Trypanosoma cruzi, comprenant l'administration à un patient dans un but prophylactique, ou à un patient ayant besoin d'un traitement, d'une quantité efficace antitrypanosomale d'une 1,4-naphtoquinone imido-substituée.
