Disclosed herein is a process for conditioning natural gas containing C2+ hydrocarbons, so that it can be used as combustion fuel to run gas-powered equipment, including gas engines and turbine-driven compressors, in the gas field or the gas processing plant. The claimed process uses preferably glassy polymeric membranes that are preferentially permeable to methane over C2+, hydrocarbons to produce a partially purified methane stream. Conditioned fuel gas has lower heating value, higher methane number, and will result in greatly reduced emissions from the engines.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de conditionnement d'un gaz naturel contenant des hydrocarbures en C2+, de façon qu'il puisse être utilisé comme combustible pour faire fonctionner un équipement à gaz, telles que des moteurs à gaz ou des compresseurs entraînés par une turbine, dans le gisement de gaz naturel ou l'installation de traitement du gaz naturel. De préférence, le procédé de l'invention utilise des membranes polymères vitreuses, de préférence perméables au méthane par rapport aux hydrocarbures en C2+, afin de produire un courant de méthane partiellement purifié. Le combustible gazeux conditionné présente un pouvoir calorifique inférieur et un indice de méthane plus élevé, ce qui permet de réduire grandement les émissions provenant des moteurs.
