Disclosed is an optical fiber having at least one slot. The optical fiber may be used, for example, in various sensing application. In some embodiments, a cross-section of the optical fiber perpendicular to the longitudinal axis has a largest dimension less than or equal to about 4 μ m, and the slot has a width of about 5 nm to about 500 nm and a depth of at least about 10 nm. Also disclosed herein are methods of using the optical fibers and apparatuses including the optical fibers.

L'invention porte sur une fibre optique, qui comprend au moins une fente. La fibre optique peut être utilisée, par exemple, dans différentes applications de détection. Dans certains modes de réalisation, une section transversale de la fibre optique perpendiculaire à l'axe longitudinal présente une dimension la plus grande inférieure ou égale à environ 4 µm, et la fente présente une largeur d'environ 5 nm à environ 500 nm et une profondeur d'au moins environ 10 nm. L'invention porte également sur des procédés d'utilisation des fibres optiques et sur des appareils comprenant les fibres optiques.
