Abstract:
(EN) The process of this invention removes impurities from transesterification products comprising primarily fatty acid alkyl esters (FAAE) that are being processed for final fuel products, such as biodiesel. The inventive process is catalytic, and the resulting ester is suitable for use as biodiesel. Metal oxide and mixed metal oxide catalysts are particularly suitable. The invention is particularly suitable for treating fatty acid alkyl ester compositions comprising impurities such as glycerin, sterol glycosides, and/or triglyceride, diglyceride and/or monoglyceride. The invention is particularly useful in treating FAAE transesterification products made using homogeneous alkali catalysts. The treated ester exhibits improved performance under cold weather conditions, which can be measured by methods such as ASTM 7501 Cold Soak Filtration Test (CSFT).
(FR) Le processus de la présente invention élimine les impuretés des produits de transestérification comprenant essentiellement des esters d'alkyle d'acides gras (FAAE) qui sont traités en vue de produits combustibles finals, tels que du biodiesel. Le processus de l'invention est catalytique et l'ester obtenu est approprié pour être utilisé comme biodiesel. Les catalyseurs d'oxydes métalliques et d'oxydes métalliques mixtes sont particulièrement appropriés. L'invention est particulièrement appropriée pour traiter des compositions d'esters d'alkyle d'acides gras comprenant des impuretés comme la glycérine, des glycosides de stérol et/ou le triglycéride, le diglycéride et/ou le monoglycéride. L'invention est particulièrement utilisée pour traiter des produits de transestérification à FAAE créés à l'aide de catalyseurs alcali homogènes.
