A localization system within a vehicle in one embodiment includes a global position system (GPS) receiver, a radar sensor, a data storage device including program instructions stored therein, a symbolic map stored within the data storage device, and a controller operatively coupled to the data storage device, the GPS receiver, and the radar sensor, the controller configured to execute the program instructions to analyze data from the GPS receiver, data from the radar sensor, and data from the stored symbolic map, and determine a probabilistic vehicle location based upon the analysis.

L'invention concerne un système de localisation dans un véhicule qui comprend, selon un mode de réalisation, un récepteur de système positionnement global (GPS), un capteur radar, un dispositif de stockage de données comportant des instructions de programme stockées dans celui-ci, une carte symbolique stockée dans le dispositif de stockage de données et un contrôleur couplé fonctionnellement au dispositif de stockage de données, le récepteur GPS et le capteur radar, le contrôleur étant configuré pour exécuter les instructions de programme pour analyser des données provenant du récepteur GPS, des données provenant du capteur radar et des données provenant de la carte symbolique stockée et déterminer une localisation probable du véhicule sur la base de l'analyse.
