A computer-based system manages and communicates the identity, attributes, and current state of a geographic point of interest. The system includes a beacon device and a distributed data network. The beacon device includes a housing supporting control electronics, a display, and communication electronics. The beacon is placed at a visible location at the geographic point of interest and receives information concerning the geographical point of interest. The display visibly communicates the information while the communication electronics communicates the same information to the distributed data network. A user can query a location-based service and receive the same information from the distributed data network that is being communicated by the display, assuring communication of accurate and consistent information concerning the geographic point of interest.

L'invention porte sur un système informatique qui gère et communique l'identité, les attributs et l'état actuel d'un point d'intérêt géographique. Le système comprend un dispositif de balise et un réseau de données distribué. Le dispositif de balise comprend un boîtier portant de l'électronique de commande, un dispositif d'affichage et de l'électronique de communication. La balise est placée à un emplacement visible au niveau du point d'intérêt géographique et reçoit des informations concernant le point d'intérêt géographique. Le dispositif d'affichage communique de manière visible les informations pendant que l'électronique de communication communique les mêmes informations au réseau de données distribué. Un utilisateur peut interroger un service basé sur un emplacement et recevoir les mêmes informations à partir du réseau de données distribué, celles-ci étant communiquées par le dispositif d'affichage, assurant une communication d'informations précises et cohérentes concernant le point d'intérêt géographique.
