The present invention relates to a method of sensing permanent deformation of a structure, the method comprising the steps of; determining the strain required to permanently deform a structure; securing to the structure one or more strain sensors so that a strain sensor will deform when the structure is deformed, wherein the or each strain sensor comprises one or more optical fibers and wherein the or each strain sensor is configured such that it will permanently deform only when the structure permanently deforms; carrying out distributed fiber optic analysis to sense if a strain sensor has been permanently deformed, wherein a permanent deformation of a strain sensor indicates permanent deformation of the structure. The present invention also relates to a corresponding assembly.

La présente invention porte sur un procédé de détection d'une déformation permanente d'une structure, lequel procédé comprend les étapes consistant à : déterminer la contrainte requise pour déformer de façon permanente une structure; fixer à la structure un ou plusieurs capteurs de contrainte, de telle sorte qu'un capteur de contrainte se déforme lorsque la structure est déformée, le ou chaque capteur de contrainte comprenant une ou plusieurs fibres optiques, et le ou chaque capteur de contrainte étant configuré de sorte qu'il se déforme de façon permanente uniquement lorsque la structure se déforme de façon permanente; et réaliser une analyse de fibres optiques distribuées de façon à détecter si un capteur de contrainte a été déformé de façon permanente, une déformation permanente d'un capteur de contrainte indiquant une déformation permanente de la structure. La présente invention porte également sur un ensemble correspondant.
