A device has a ring having a tubular interior surface including one or more portions which each define a ridge. On opposite circumferential sides of each ridge are first and second ports. A rotor including a rotor body is mounted for rotation in the ring. Vanes are mounted to the body for co-rotation and for radial extension and retraction such that at least portions of the surface can be swept by the vanes; a seal between the rotor and ring permits fluid communication into and out of the device substantially only via the ports. An arrangement causes the vanes to retract and extend as the body rotates such that chambers are created which decrease in volume when communicating with the first ports and chambers are created which increase in volume when communicating with the second ports, the arrangement including a fluid pressure mechanism that causes said retraction and extension.

L'invention porte sur un dispositif possédant un anneau qui présente une surface intérieure tubulaire comprenant une ou plusieurs parties définissant chacune une crête. Sur des côtés circonférentiels opposés de chaque crête, se trouvent des premiers et seconds orifices. Un rotor comprenant un corps de rotor est monté pour tourner dans l'anneau. Des palettes sont montées sur le corps pour tourner conjointement et pour une extension radiale et un retrait radial de telle sorte qu'au moins des parties de la surface peuvent être balayées par les palettes. Un joint entre le rotor et l'anneau permet une communication de fluide entrant dans le dispositif et sortant du dispositif sensiblement uniquement à travers les orifices. Un agencement amène les palettes à se rétracter et à se mettre en extension pendant que le corps tourne de telle sorte qu'il se crée des chambres qui diminuent de volume lorsqu'elles communiquent avec les premiers orifices et des chambres qui croissent en volume lorsqu'elles communiquent avec les seconds orifices, l'agencement comprenant un mécanisme à pression de fluide qui provoque ledit retrait et ladite extension.
