Abstract

A pipe joint, comprises a screw-threaded joint for pipes comprises a pin (10) having a male screw-threaded portion (15) and a box (20) having a complementary screw-threaded portion(25). The threaded portions of the pin and box (10,20) inter-engage along the greater part of the axial length of the threaded portions, the male thread extending to a male stop shoulder adjacent a complementary stop shoulder on the other portion. The pin (10) further comprises a radial surface (12) adjacent a corresponding radial surface (22) on the complementary stop shoulder of the box, a curved sealing surface (14) of the radial surface on the pin sealingly engaging a corresponding curved sealing surface (24) on the corresponding radial surface on the complementary stop shoulder. Each of the curved sealing surfaces (14,24) is so shaped to lie on an arc of a separate ellipse. The parameters of the ellipses are carefully chosen to maximise the strength and robustness of the seal.

Un raccord de tuyaux, comprenant un raccord avec filetage pour tuyaux, comprend une cheville (10) possédant une partie filetée mâle (15) et un boîtier (20) possédant une partie filetée complémentaire (25). Les parties filetées de la cheville et du boîtier (10,20) viennent mutuellement en prise sur la majeure partie de la longueur axiale des parties filetées, le filetage mâle s'étendant jusqu'à un épaulement de butée mâle adjacent à un épaulement de butée complémentaire de l'autre partie. La cheville (10) comprend en outre une surface radiale (12) adjacente à une surface radiale correspondante (22) de l'épaulement de butée complémentaire du boîtier, une surface d'étanchéité incurvée (14) de la surface radiale sur la cheville venant en prise étanche avec une surface d'étanchéité incurvée correspondante (24) sur la surface radiale correspondante de l'épaulement de butée complémentaire. Chacune des surfaces d'étanchéité incurvées (14,24) est façonnée de manière à reposer sur un arc d'une ellipse distincte. Les paramètres des ellipses sont soigneusement choisis afin de maximiser la résistance et la solidité du joint.
