The invention relates to a new design of aircraft propulsion unit with contrarotating rotors of which the noise on takeoff is greatly reduced by temporarily running these rotors in corotation. This engine and the method of using it are characterized by two rotors (1) and (2) which rotate in contrary directions for cruising flight but in the same direction for takeoff, the blades (21) of the rotor (2) therefore having an altered pitch angle in order to maintain the direction of thrust. Reversing the direction in which the rotor (2) rotates is achieved by coupling the pinion (25) to the turbine (5) and to the rotor (2) using clutches (24) and (26), the direct-drive clutch (28) then being disengaged.

L'invention concerne un nouveau concept de propulseur d'avion à rotors contrarotatifs dont le bruit au décollage est fortement réduit par la mise en oeuvre temporaire de ces rotors en corotation. Ce moteur et sa méthode d'utilisation sont caractérisés par deux rotors (1) et (2) qui tournent en sens contraires pour la croisière mais dans le même sens pour le décollage, les aubes (21) du rotor (2) ayant alors un angle de calage modifié pour conserver le sens de la poussée. L'inversion du sens de rotation du rotor (2) est obtenu par le couplage du pignon (25) à la turbine (5) et au rotor (2) au moyen des embrayages (24) et (26), l'embrayage de prise directe (28) étant alors débrayé.
