An acoustic-drum tuning assembly includes a single adjustment feature to vary the drumhead tension uniformly around the drumhead's periphery. The tuning mechanism includes multiple rings located between the end of the drum shell (or support ring) and the "underside" of the drumhead. The drumhead is otherwise restrained with respect to the drum shell by a hoop or rim fixed in place by multiple conventional threaded tension rods and tuning lugs or other hoop- fixing mechanism. The single adjustment feature varies the circumference of a wedging ring, which generates an axial force causing the tuning assembly to "expand" or "retract" along the central axis of the drum. When the tuning assembly axially "expands", it pushes increasingly "upward" against the drumhead, variably increasing its tension and the musical pitch of the drum. Conversely, when the tuning assembly axially "retracts", it decreases the "upward" push, thereby variably decreasing the drumhead tension and lowering the musical pitch of the drum.

L'invention porte sur un ensemble d'accord de tambour acoustique, lequel ensemble comprend un élément de réglage unique pour faire varier la tension de la peau de tambour de façon uniforme autour de la périphérie de la peau de tambour. Le mécanisme d'accord comprend de multiples anneaux disposés entre l'extrémité du fût de tambour (ou anneau de support) et la « face inférieure » de la peau de tambour. La peau de tambour est par ailleurs maintenue vis-à-vis du fût de tambour par un cerclage ou un rebord fixé en place par de multiples tiges de tension filetées classiques et des étriers d'accord ou un autre mécanisme de fixation de cerclage. L'élément de réglage unique fait varier la circonférence d'un anneau de pincement, ce qui génère une force axiale provoquant la « dilatation » ou la « rétraction » de l'ensemble d'accord le long de l'axe central du tambour. Lorsque l'ensemble d'accord « se dilate » axialement, il pousse de plus en plus « vers le haut » contre la peau de tambour, augmentant de façon variable sa tension et la hauteur de son musical du tambour. Inversement, lorsque l'ensemble d'accord « se rétracte » axialement, il diminue la poussée « vers le haut », de façon à diminuer ainsi de façon variable la tension de la peau de tambour et à abaisser la hauteur de son musical du tambour.
