A display system (1), which is provided with a reflection-type display device (2), is provided with: a display device (2) that is provided with a PNLC panel (10) that does not have any pigmented layers, and that is capable of selectively forming a transparent part (12) and a scattering part (13), and a reflecting member (14) disposed on the rear surface side of the PNLC panel (10); and a light source device (4) that projects single-colored or multi-colored light on the PNLC panel (10) from the surface side of the PNLC panel (10). This configuration provides a display in which images appear to stand out from a mirror.
