A composition containing nelumbo extract reduces and/or eliminates one or more risk factors associated with Metabolic syndrome. The composition also includes optionally one of more components selected from the group consisting of vitamins, cholesterol lowering agents, lipid lowering agents, and glucose lowering agent. Also described is a method of reducing and/or eliminating risk factors associated with Metabolic syndrome in a subject through the administration of the nelumbo extract. The nelumbo extract supplement is administered orally, intravenously, or subcutaneously. In one embodiment, a daily dose of 10-1,000 mg of the extract supplement is administered to the subject for a period of 6 weeks to 6 months.

La présente invention concerne une composition contenant un extrait de nelumbo qui réduit et/ou élimine un ou plusieurs facteurs de risques associés au syndrome métabolique. Ladite composition comprend en outre éventuellement un ou plusieurs composants sélectionnés dans le groupe constitué par les vitamines, les hypocholestérolémiants, les hypolipidémiants, et les agents de diminution de glucose. L'invention a également trait à un procédé de réduction et/ou d'élimination des facteurs de risques associés au syndrome métabolique chez un sujet, par l'administration dudit extrait de nelumbo. Le complément d'extrait de nelumbo est administré par voie buccale, intraveineuse ou sous-cutanée. Dans un mode de réalisation, une dose quotidienne de 10 à 1 000 mg de complément d'extrait est administrée au sujet pendant une période allant de 6 semaines à 6 mois.
