A ceramic block consisting essentially of substantially homogeneous (Υ2O3)χ P2O5, where 0.95 ≤ x ≤ 1.05, having length LL, a width WW and a height HH, and a volume W of at least 8 x10-3 m3 essentially free of cracks throughout the volume, a density of at least 85% of the theoretical maximal density of Υ203·Ρ2O5 under standard conditions, and a creep rate CR at 1250°C and 6.89 MPa; where CR ≤ 8.0 x 10-6 hour-1 and method for making the same. The method utilizes a dry process where the starting YP04-based ceramic material is synthesized by reacting anhydrous P2O5 with dry Y2O3 powder.

L'invention concerne un bloc en céramique constitué essentiellement par du (Υ2O3)x.P2O5 pratiquement homogène, x satisfaisant la condition 0,95 ≤ x ≤ 1,05, présentant une longueur LL, une largeur WW et une hauteur HH, et un volume W d'au moins 8 x10‑3 m3 essentiellement exempt de fissures dans tout le volume, une densité d'au moins 85% de la densité maximale théorique du Υ2O3·Ρ2O5 dans des conditions standard, et une vitesse de fluage VF à 1250°C et 6,89 MPa, VF étant ≤ 8,0 x 10‑6 heure‑1. L'invention concerne également un procédé pour la fabrication dudit bloc. Le procédé est un procédé à sec, le matériau en céramique à base de YPO4 de départ étant synthétisé par réaction de P2O5 anhydre avec de la poudre de Y2O3 sèche.
