The present invention provides isolated nucleic acids encoding Chl d synthase, gene constructs comprising the isolated nucleic acids and cells, chloroplasts, plant tissue and whole plants ectopically expressing cyanobacterial Chl d synthase. The invention also provides isolated antibodies prepared using recombinant Chl d synthase. The antibodies and gene constructs of the invention are used to produce Chl d in organisms that do not normally produce Chl d, and to modify Chl d level in cyanobacterial cells, such as for modifying environmental host range and photosynthetic capacity of organisms in low light and/or red or far-red or near far-red light environments.

La présente invention concerne des acides nucléiques isolés codant pour la Chl d synthase, des constructions géniques comprenant les acides nucléiques isolés et des cellules, des chloroplastes, des tissus végétaux et des plantes entières exprimant de manière ectopique la Chl d synthase de cyanobactéries. L'invention concerne également des anticorps isolés préparés à l'aide de la Chl d synthase recombinante. Les anticorps et les constructions géniques de l'invention sont utilisés pour produire de la Chl d dans des organismes qui ne produisent pas normalement la Chl d et pour modifier la teneur en Chl d dans des cellules cyanobactériennes, par exemple pour modifier l'éventail d'hôtes dans l'environnement et la capacité photosynthétique des organismes dans des environnements à faible luminosité et/ou dans des environnements lumineux dans le rouge ou le rouge lointain ou proches du rouge lointain.
