Abstract
(EN) Phakopsora pachyrhizi, the fungal pathogen that causes Asian soybean rust, has the potential to cause significant losses in soybean yield in many production regions of the U.S. To assist the development of new modes of soybean resistance to fungal infection, peptides were identified from combinatorial phage-display peptide libraries which inhibit germ tube growth from urediniospores of P. pachyrhizi. Two peptides, Sp2 and Sp39, were identified that inhibit germ tube development when displayed as fusions with the coat protein of Ml 3 phage or as fusions with maize cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase (ZmCKXl). These peptides may be used in vitro to help control fungal infection. These peptides may also be expressed as transgenes in a plant to help the resulting transgenic plant defend against the fungi.
(FR) Phakopsora pachyrhizi, le pathogène fongique qui entraîne la rouille asiatique du soja, est capable d'entraîner des pertes significatives dans le rendement en soja dans plusieurs régions de production des Etats-Unis. Afin d'aider à développer de nouveaux modes de résistance du soja aux infections fongiques, des peptides ont été identifiés à partir de bibliothèques peptidiques combinatoires d'exposition sur phage lesquels inhibent la croissance du tube à partir des urédospores de P. pachyrhizi. Deux peptides, Sp2 et Sp39, ont été identifiés lesquels inhibent le développement du tube germinatif lorsqu'ils sont présentés comme peptides de fusion avec la protéine enveloppe du phage Ml 3 ou comme peptides de fusion avec la cytokinine oxydase/déshydrogénase de maïs (ZmCKXl). Ces peptides peuvent être utilisés in vitro pour aider à contrôler l'infection fongique. Ces peptides peuvent également être exprimés comme transgènes dans une plante pour aider la plante transgénique résultante à se défendre contre les champignons.
