(EN)Cuff pressure modulation results in decreased severity of injury to the subglottic region and upper trachea. A simple device is capable of modulating the pressure in the cuff of a regular endotracheal tube, by coordinating the pressure level to be maximal during the inspiratory phase and minimal during the expiratory phase. This allowed for regular positive airway pressure ventilation as during inspiration the seal was maintained between the ETT and the tracheal mucosa by the inflated cuff, but during expiration cuff deflation allowed the cuff pressure to drop in the subglottic and tracheal area.
(FR)Selon l'invention, une modulation de pression dans un ballonnet conduit à une gravité réduite de lésion de la région sous-glottique et de la trachée supérieure. Un dispositif simple est apte à moduler la pression dans le ballonnet d'un tube endotrachéal normal par coordination du niveau de pression afin qu'il soit maximal durant la phase inspiratoire et minimal durant la phase expiratoire. Ceci a permis une ventilation de pression des voies aériennes positive normale puisque durant l'inspiration, le joint d'étanchéité était maintenu entre le tube endotrachéal (ETT) et la muqueuse trachéale par le ballonnet gonflé, mais durant l'expiration, le dégonflage du ballonnet a permis à la pression dans le ballonnet de chuter au niveau des régions sous-glottique et trachéale.
