Abstract
(EN) A catheter (or cannula) is small enough in diameter to be placed minimally invasively into the body of a patient but also can be expanded post-placement to provide a larger-diameter placed catheter that supports fluid flow at a rate higher than is possible through the pre-placement reduced-diameter catheter. The expandable catheter is constructed using one or more shape memory polymers and can include one or more stent-like sections and/or at least part of the cannula formed as folded lobes. Each of the stent-like sections is configured to enhance the flexibility of the section as compared to the other parts of the catheter and thus allow the section to accommodate tight bends and turns when inserted into the body of the patient. The folded lobes are axial folds that constitute at least one section of the cannula, and they unfold upon expansion of the catheter to create a large cross-sectional shape.
(FR) La présente invention concerne un cathéter (ou une canule) qui a un diamètre assez petit pour être placé de manière peu effractive à l'intérieur du corps d'un patient mais qui peut être également étiré après son positionnement afin de fournir un cathéter en place de plus grand diamètre qui permet au fluide de circuler à une vitesse plus élevée que celle possible à travers le cathéter de diamètre réduit avant son positionnement. Le cathéter extensible est construit en utilisant un ou plusieurs polymères à mémoire de forme et peut comprendre une ou plusieurs sections de type endoprothèse et/ou au moins une partie de la canule formant des lobes repliés. Chacune des sections de type endoprothèse est configurée pour améliorer la flexibilité de la section par rapport aux autres parties du cathéter et permet ainsi à la section de s'adapter à des plis serrés et à des tours lors de son insertion à l'intérieur du corps du patient. Les lobes repliés sont des plis axiaux constituant au moins une section de la canule, et se déplient au moment de l'extension du cathéter afin de créer une forme de section transversale importante.
