Abstract

A DC to DC power converter (22) and a method for boosting and bucking an input voltage (Vs) are disclosed. The DC to DC power converter includes one or more output converter stages electrically coupled to an input voltage source through an inductor (24). Each output converter stage comprises a capacitor (40, 42, 44) and at least two switches (46, 48, 50, 52) for switching at a desired duty cycle in an ON stage and an OFF stage for generating an applied voltage, such that the input voltage source (12) continuously delivers power to a load (26) and the capacitor. The one or more output stages enable a DC to DC voltage conversion to any desired step -up ratio or step -down for the output voltage. In another embodiment, output converter stages are switched such that bidirectional power flow is achieved.

La présente invention concerne un convertisseur de courant (22) de CC en CC et un procédé pour élever et abaisser une tension d'entrée (Vs). Le convertisseur de courant CC en CC comprend un ou plusieurs étages de conversion de puissance couplés électriquement à une source de tension d'entrée par le biais d'une bobine d'induction (24). Chaque étage de conversion de puissance comprend un condensateur (40, 42, 44) et au moins deux interrupteurs (46, 48, 50, 52) pour basculer, au niveau d'un cycle de charge souhaité, vers un étage connecté et vers un étage déconnecté pour générer une tension appliquée, de telle sorte que la source de tension d'entrée (12) amène en continu du courant à une charge (26) et au condensateur. Le ou les étages de puissance permettent une conversion de CC en CC selon n'importe quel ratio d'augmentation ou de diminution souhaité pour la tension de sortie. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, les étages de conversion de puissance sont commutés de façon à obtenir un flux de courant bidirectionnel.
