Abstract

A PCD structure comprising a first region, in a state of residual compressive stress, and a second region in a state of residual tensile stress adjacent the first region; the first and second regions each formed of respective PCD grades and directly bonded to each other by intergrowth of diamond grains, the PCD grades having transverse rupture strength (TRS) of at least 1,200 MPa. A third region in a state of residual compressive stress may also be provided such that the second region is disposed between the first and third regions and is bonded to the first and third regions by intergrowth of diamond grains.

La présente invention concerne une structure de PCD (diamant polycristallin compact) comprenant une première région dans un état de contrainte de compression résiduelle et une deuxième région dans un état de contrainte de traction résiduelle adjacente à la première région; les première et deuxième régions étant chacune constituées de degrés de PCD respectifs et étant directement liées l'une à l'autre par l'intercroissance des grains de diamant, les degrés de PCD présentant une limite de rupture transversale (TRS) d'au moins 1 200 MPa. Une troisième région dans un état de contrainte de compression résiduelle peut également être prévue de sorte que la deuxième région soit disposée entre les première et troisième régions, et soit liée aux première et troisième régions par l'intercroissance des grains de diamant.
