A method for making substrates for information recording media from a glass blank which exhibits excellent flatness and inhibits the occurrence of dent traces, even if the processing quantity is reduced by the thinning of the glass blank. Disclosed are a manufacturing method for a glass blank and a glass blank, having a disc-shaped thin part (10), and a thick part (12) provided so as to form projecting sections (12U, 12D) on both surfaces of the thin part (10) and along the peripheral edge thereof. In the diametrical direction of the thin part (10), the width (W1) in the radial direction of the projecting section (12D) on one surface side in the diametrical direction of the thin part is larger than the width (W2) in the radial direction of the projecting section (12U) on the other surface side. Further disclosed are a manufacturing method for a substrate for an information recording medium, and a manufacturing method for an information recording medium, both using said glass blank.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'un support d'enregistrement d'informations à partir d'une ébauche de verre qui présente une planéité excellente et empêche l'apparition de traces de bosses, même si la quantité de traitement est réduite par l'amincissement de l'ébauche de verre. La présente invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'une ébauche de verre et une ébauche de verre, présentant une partie mince (10) en forme de disque et une partie épaisse (12) prévue pour former des parties saillantes (12U, 12D) sur les deux surfaces de la partie mince (10) et sur sa circonférence. Dans la direction du diamètre de la partie mince (10), la largeur (W1) dans la direction radiale de la partie saillante (12D) sur un côté de la surface dans la direction du diamètre de la partie mince est plus grande que la largeur (W2) dans la direction radiale de la partie saillante (12U) sur l'autre côté de la surface. La présente invention concerne également un procédé de fabrication d'un substrat destiné à un support d'enregistrement d'informations et un procédé de fabrication d'un support d'enregistrement d'informations, tous deux faisant appel à ladite ébauche de verre.
