Abstract

Objects of interest are detected and identified using multiple cameras having varying resolution and imaging parameters. An object is first located using a low resolution camera. A second camera (or lens) is then directed at the object's location using a steerable mirror assembly to capture a high-resolution image at a location where the object is thought to be based on image acquired by the wide-angle camera. Various image processing algorithms may be applied to confirm the presence of the object in the telephoto image. If an object is detected and the image is of sufficiently high quality, detailed facial, alpha-numeric, or other pattern recognition techniques may be applied to the image.

Des objets d'intérêt sont détectés et identifiés au moyen de plusieurs caméras ayant des paramètres de résolution et d'imagerie variables. Un objet est d'abord localisé au moyen d'une caméra ayant une faible résolution. Une seconde caméra (ou lentille) est ensuite dirigée sur l'emplacement de l'objet au moyen d'un ensemble miroir orientable afin de capturer une image à haute résolution à un emplacement où l'on pense que l'objet est situé sur la base de l'image acquise par la caméra avec grand angulaire. Divers algorithmes de traitement d'image peuvent être appliqués pour confirmer la présence de l'objet dans l'image de la photo prise avec un téléobjectif. Si un objet est détecté et si l'image est d'une qualité suffisamment élevée, on peut appliquer à l'image des techniques de reconnaissance détaillée de visages, de caractères alphanumériques ou d'autres motifs.
