(EN)Disclosed as one embodiment of the present invention is glass for a magnetic recording medium substrate, which contains, in mol%, 50-75% of SiO2, 0-5% of Al2O3, 0-3% of Li2O, 0-5% of ZnO, 3-15% of Na2O and K2O in total, 14-35% of MgO, CaO, SrO and BaO in total, and 2-9% of ZrO2, TiO2, La2O3, Y2O3, Yb2O3, Ta2O5, Nb2O5 and HfO2 in total. The molar ratio [(MgO + CaO)/(MgO + CaO + SrO + BaO)] is within the range of 0.85-1, and the molar ratio [Al2O3/(MgO + CaO)] is within the range of 0-0.30.
