An encoding method for encoding of images and corresponding decoding method is disclosed, as well as an encoder and a decoder. The encoding method comprises creating, in an encoder, a residual block from an original block and a prediction block which is an approximation of the original block, wherein the created residual block comprises residual block elements. The en-coding method further comprises re-ordering, in the encoder, the residual block elements within the residual block; and applying, in the encoder, a transform to the re-ordered residual block. By re-ordering the residual block elements prior to applying a transform, an improved efficiency of the encoding may be obtained.

L'invention concerne un procédé de codage permettant de coder des images ainsi qu'un procédé correspondant de décodage, ainsi qu'un encodeur et un décodeur. Le procédé de codage comprend la création, dans un encodeur, d'un bloc résiduel provenant d'un bloc originel et d'un bloc de prédiction qui représente une approximation du bloc originel, le bloc résiduel créé comprenant des éléments du bloc résiduel. Le procédé de codage comprend en outre un nouvel ordonnancement, dans l'encodeur, des éléments du bloc résiduel à l'intérieur du bloc résiduel, ainsi que l'application, dans l'encodeur, d'une transformation au bloc résiduel réordonné. En réordonnant les éléments du bloc résiduel avant d'appliquer la transformation, on peut obtenir une efficacité améliorée du codage.
