Abstract

A cutting insert (20) used in rotary cutting tools for performing turning spinning operations has an upper surface (22) and an opposing base surface (24) with a peripheral surface (26) therebetween, the peripheral surface (26) intersecting the upper surface (22) to form a cutting edge (34). The cutting edge (34) may be a continuous circular cutting edge. The upper surface (22) has rotational asymmetry about an insert axis (Al) passing between the upper surface (22) and the base surface (24), by virtue of having at least one spiral shaped protrusion with a chip deflection distance (Dl) which continuously increases in a rotational direction about the insert axis for greater than 180°. The cutting insert is assembled to a cutting tool body (48) having a shank portion (50) and a cutting portion (52) sharing a longitudinal axis (A2), the insert axis (Al) being aligned with the longitudinal axis (A2) and the cutting insert (20) secured in an insert receiving pocket (56) of the cutting portion.

Un insert de coupe (20) utilisé dans des outils de coupe rotatifs pour réaliser des opérations de tournage repoussage comprend une surface supérieure (22) et une surface de base opposée (24) comprenant une surface périphérique (26) s'étendant entre elles, la surface périphérique (26) croisant la surface supérieure (22) pour former un bord de coupe (34). Le bord de coupe (34) peut être un bord de coupe circulaire continu. La surface supérieure (22) présente une asymétrie de rotation autour d'un axe d'insert (A1) passant entre la surface supérieure (22) et la surface de base (24), du fait qu'elle comprend au moins une saillie en forme de spirale présentant une distance de déviation des copeaux (D1) qui augmente continuellement dans une direction de rotation autour de l'axe d'insert pour dépasser 180°. L'insert de coupe est assemblé sur un corps d'outil de coupe (48) comprenant une partie de manche (50) et une partie de coupe (52) partageant un axe longitudinal (A2), l'axe d'insert (A1) étant aligné sur l'axe longitudinal (A2), et l'insert de coupe (20) étant protégé dans une cavité de réception d'insert (56) de la partie de coupe.
