Abstract

A three-dimensional microfluidic system including: at least one hydrophilic thread along which fluid can be transported through capillary wicking; and at least one hydrophobic substrate for supporting the hydrophilic thread. A method of transporting and mixing a plurality of fluids within a microfluidic system including at least two hydrophilic threads and a hydrophobic substrate having at least two zones, each of the hydrophilic threads supported on a different hydrophobic substrate zone, including: delivering each said fluid to a different hydrophilic thread; and bringing the at least two hydrophilic threads into contact to cause mixing of the fluids.

La présente invention se rapporte à un système microfluidique tridimensionnel comprenant : au moins un fil hydrophile le long duquel un fluide peut être transporté par capillarité; et au moins un substrat hydrophobe destiné à soutenir le fil hydrophile. L'invention se rapporte également à un procédé de transport et de mélange d'une pluralité de fluides dans un système microfluidique comprenant au moins deux fils hydrophiles et un substrat hydrophobe comportant au moins deux zones, chacun des fils hydrophiles étant soutenu sur une zone de substrat hydrophobe différente, ledit procédé comprenant : la distribution de chaque fluide à un fil hydrophile différent; et la mise en contact des deux fils hydrophiles ou plus pour provoquer le mélange des fluides.
