The invention relates to articles coated with a shatterproof elastomeric overmold, such as including glass baby and drinking articles, as well as compact fluorescent lamps. The coated glass articles provide shock resistance to prevent breakage in many typical drops, or total glass containment with the elastomeric sleeve if the glass does break. The coating also provides thermal insulation to maintain the temperature of liquids disposed therein and keep the temperature of liquids in the container from migrating to the hand of the person handling the article. Additionally, the coated compact fluorescent lamp provides safety and containment while eliminating worries of broken glass and mercury exposure. Methods of manufacturing elastomer coated articles by dipping an article in a solvent dispersion of uncured elastomer to provide one or more layers is also provided, or a method for injection overmolding of a coating on the article.

La présente invention concerne des articles revêtus avec un surmoule élastomère incassable, comprenant par exemple des articles en verre pour enfant et de boisson, ainsi que des lampes fluorescentes compactes. Les articles en verre revêtus présentent une résistance aux chocs pour prévenir la rupture dans de nombreuses chutes typiques, ou un confinement en verre total avec l'enveloppe élastomère si le verre se rompt. Le revêtement produit également une isolation thermique pour empêcher la température de liquides disposés dans celui-ci et empêcher la température de liquides dans le conteneur d'atteindre la main de la personne tenant l'article. De plus, la lampe fluorescente compacte revêtue assure sécurité et confinement tout en éliminant les problèmes de verre cassé et d'exposition au mercure. La présente invention concerne en outre des procédés de fabrication d'articles revêtus d'élastomère par immersion d'un article dans une dispersion dans un solvant d'élastomère non durci pour produire une ou plusieurs couches, ou un procédé pour le surmoulage par injection d'un revêtement sur l'article.
