A primary scotch yoke (100) and a secondary scotch yoke (100') are coupled in opposing arrangement and rigidly attached to a linearly reciprocating element (88). Each scotch yoke includes a rotary actuator (90,90') with a cam follower (92,92') and a yoke attached to the reciprocating element. Each yoke has a cam (106, 108) with an open gap (G) through which the follower may be disengaged from the cam and stopped to an idle position. The follower (92') of the secondary scotch yoke is kept idle in a position similarly disengaged from its cam (108). A controller (120) detects a failure in the primary scotch yoke (100), disengages the cam follower (92) of the primary yoke from its cam (106), and energizes the secondary scotch yoke (100'), thereby causing its cam follower (92') to engage its yoke and continue to provide uninterrupted motion to the reciprocating element (88), in particular the portable pneumatic pump (50) driving an artificial heart.

L'invention concerne un mécanisme à bille et coulisseau primaire (100) et un mécanisme à bille et coulisseau secondaire (100') qui sont couplés selon un agencement opposé et attachés de manière rigide à un élément qui effectue un mouvement de va-et-vient linéaire (88). Chaque mécanisme à bille et coulisseau comprend un actionneur rotatif (90, 90') muni d'un galet suiveur (92, 92') et d'une fourche attachée à l'élément qui effectue un mouvement de va-et-vient. Chaque fourche comprend une came (106, 108) munie d'un espace ouvert (G) par lequel le suiveur peut être désengagé de la came et stoppé à une position de repos. Le suiveur (92') du mécanisme à bille et coulisseau secondaire est maintenu au repos dans une position pareillement désengagée de sa came (108). Un dispositif de commande (120) détecte une défaillance du mécanisme à bille et coulisseau primaire (100), désengage le galet suiveur (92) de la fourche primaire de sa came (106) et alimente le mécanisme à bille et coulisseau secondaire (100'), provoquant ainsi l'engagement de son galet suiveur (92') avec sa fourche et continuant ainsi de fournir un mouvement ininterrompu à l'élément qui effectue un mouvement de va-et-vient (88), notamment la pompe pneumatique portable (50) qui actionne un cœur artificiel.
