A method (300) and apparatus for optimizing target error rates for link adaptation in a communication system (100). The method (300) includes estimating (300) a data rate associated with transmission of a data stream over a communication link. A required target error rate is then selected from a plurality of pre-defined target error rate values based on whether (310) the estimated data rate is within a range of at least one of a plurality of pre-defined threshold values, where each of the pre-defined target error rate values maps to one of the plurality of pre-defined threshold values. A link adaptation parameter associated with the communication link is then selected or updated (320, 335) to maintain the required target error rate and the data stream is transmitted (325) over the communication link using the selected/updated link adaptation parameter.

Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé (300) et à un appareil destinés à optimiser des taux d'erreurs cibles pour une adaptation de liaison dans un système de communication (100). Le procédé comprend (300) une estimation (300) d'un débit de données associé à la transmission d'un train de données sur une liaison de communication. Un taux d'erreurs cibles requis est ensuite sélectionné parmi une pluralité de valeurs de taux d'erreurs cibles prédéfinis sur la base du fait que (310) le débit de données estimé se trouve ou pas à l'intérieur d'une plage d'au moins l'une d'une pluralité de valeurs de seuil prédéfinies, chacune des valeurs de taux d'erreurs cibles prédéfinis mappant vers l'une de la pluralité de valeurs de seuil prédéfinies. Un paramètre d'adaptation de liaison associé à la liaison de communication est ensuite sélectionné ou mis à jour (320, 335) de manière à maintenir le taux d'erreurs cibles requis et le train de données est transmis (325) sur la liaison de communication en utilisant le paramètre d'adaptation de liaison sélectionné/mis à jour.
