Abstract:
(EN) This invention relates to a method and apparatus for treating a subject having an intervertebral disc with a defect comprising extruded, protruded or sequestered disc material. The apparatus involves a reversibly expandable plug element. The method involves administering chondrocytes and/or progenitor cells to a site within a disc, inserting an expandable surgical plug element into the site, expanding the expandable surgical plug element until this fills and/or seals the site so as to maintain the cells at the site, for at least a period sufficient for the cells to adhere to adjacent tissue. An associated surgical tool for positioning and controlling the apparatus is also disclosed.
(FR) Cette invention concerne un procédé et un appareil pour traiter un sujet dont un disque intervertébral présente un défaut comportant un matériau de disque extrudé, faisant saillie ou séquestré. L'appareil comporte un élément d'obturation expansible de façon réversible. Le procédé entraîne l'administration de chondrocytes et/ou de cellules progénitrices à un site à l'intérieur d'un disque, l'introduction d'un élément d'obturation chirurgical expansible dans le site, l'expansion de l'élément d'obturation chirurgical expansible jusqu'à ce qu'il remplisse et/ou scelle le site de façon à maintenir les cellules au niveau du site, pendant au moins une période de temps suffisante pour que les cellules adhèrent au tissu adjacent. L'invention concerne également un outil chirurgical associé pour positionner et commander l'appareil.
