In order to measure the latency of a particular transport service from end to end, a method of measuring the latency of a transport connection between a first network node (NI ) and a second network node (N2) is provided, which makes use of a virtual concatenation function with a buffer (B) to compensate the differential delay between members in a received virtual concatenation group. In particular, the first network node (Nl ) creates a virtual concatenation group which has as members at least two multiplexing units (VC4_1, VC4_2). A first of the two (VC4_1 ) is used as a reference for the latency measurement. The second (VC4_2) is sent to the second network node (N2), where it is looped back to said first network node (Nl ). The first network node (Nl ), by using its buffer (B) available for re-aligning members of a virtual concatenation group, determines a latency difference between the first and second multiplexing units (VC4_1, VC4_2).

L'invention concerne un procédé pour mesurer la latence d'une connexion de transport entre un premier nœud de réseau (NI) et un second nœud de réseau (N2) qui permet de mesurer la latence d'un service de transport particulier d'un bout à l'autre, et d'utiliser une fonction de concaténation virtuelle avec un tampon (B) pour compenser le retard de différentiel entre des éléments d'un groupe de concaténation virtuel reçu. Le premier nœud de réseau (Nl) crée, en particulier un groupe de concaténation virtuel qui comprend en tant qu'éléments au moins deux unités de multiplexage (VC4_1, VC4_2). La première des deux unités (VC4_1) est utilisée comme référence pour mesurer la latence. La seconde unité (VC4_2) est envoyée au second nœud de réseau (N2) où elle est renvoyée en boucle au premier nœud de réseau (Nl). Le premier nœud de réseau (Nl), au moyen de son tampon (B) disponible pour réaligner des éléments d'un groupe de concaténation virtuel, détermine une différence de latence entre la première et la seconde unité de multiplexage (VC4_1, VC4_2).
