There is described In another of its aspects, the present invention provides a radiation source assembly comprising: (i) an elongate radiation source; (ii) a positioning element connected to a proximal portion of the elongate radiation source; and (iii) a connecting portion secured to a proximal portion of the positioning element and configured to engage a support element to maintain a distal portion of the elongate radiation source in a cantilevered position. The present radiation source assembly is configured such that the distal portion of the radiation source is cantilevered with the respect to the distal portion of the protective sleeve in which it is disposed. This feature obviates the need to use spacers, stops, springs and the like in a distal portion of the protective sleeve to maintain correct position of the radiation source within the protective sleeve. Further, the present radiation source assembly is advantageous in that allows for withdrawal of the radiation source from the radiation source assembly without the need to disengage all of the components. Thus, it is possible to replace a single radiation source by removing it from the protective sleeve during operation of the fluid treatment system. This operation can be accomplished quickly without the need to shut down the fluid treatment system or otherwise compensate for the fact that one of the radiation source is being serviced.

Selon l'un de ces aspects, la présente invention porte sur un ensemble source de rayonnement qui comporte : (i) une source de rayonnement allongée; (ii) un élément de positionnement raccordé à une partie proximale de la source de rayonnement allongée, et (iii) une partie de raccordement fixée à une partie proximale de l'élément de positionnement et configurée pour venir en contact avec un élément de support afin de maintenir une partie distale de la source de rayonnement allongée dans une position en porte-à-faux. Le présent ensemble source de rayonnement est configuré de telle manière que la partie distale de la source de rayonnement est en porte-à-faux par rapport à la partie distale du manchon protecteur dans lequel elle est disposée. Cette caractéristique élimine le besoin d'utiliser des séparateurs, des butées, des ressorts et autres dans une partie distale du manchon protecteur afin de maintenir une position correcte de la source de rayonnement à l'intérieur du manchon protecteur. En outre, le présent ensemble source de rayonnement est avantageux en ce qu'il permet de retirer la source de rayonnement de l'ensemble source de rayonnement sans qu'il soit nécessaire de dégager tous les composants. Il est donc possible de remplacer une source de rayonnement individuelle en la retirant du manchon protecteur pendant le fonctionnement du système de traitement de fluide. Cette opération peut être accomplie rapidement sans qu'il soit nécessaire d'arrêter le système de traitement de fluide ni de compenser autrement le fait que l'une des sources de rayonnement est en cours d'entretien.
