Abstract:
In so-called heat pipe reformers for producing combustible gas from carbonaceous feed material, heat produced by heat pipes in a combustion chamber is fed into a reformer-reactor arranged above the combustion chamber. As a result of the high operating temperatures, the hydrogen created diffuses in an intensified manner into the heat pipes. Said hydrogen impairs the operability of the heat pipes to such an extent that they can stop working. The invention relates to a heat pipe reformer comprising heat pipes, where the blanket of hydrogen in the heat pipes is avoided or reduced. When heat pipes are used in heat pipe reformers, the difference in temperature between the heat-receiving side and the heat-emitting side must be as low as possible, that is <50 K. In known NaK heat pipes, said difference in temperature is higher. Due to the use of a mixture or an alloy containing sodium and potassium as a heat carrier medium in the heat pipes, a high vapour pressure is generated inside the heat pipes, that promotes the diffusion of hydrogen in the condenser of the heat pipes, that is in the heat-emitting part of the heat pipe. Surprisingly, it has emerged that the difference in temperature between the boiling temperature and the condensation temperature, created in the mixture, is not as high as indicated in the literature.
