(EN)According to various embodiments, a tracheal tube (12) may include a detector array (20) configured to detect a field generated by an external source (22). The detector array (20) may generate a signal indicative of a distance between the source (22) and a distal end of the tracheal tube (12). Based on a known distance s between the source (22) and a carina (24), a distance between the distal end of the tracheal tube 12 and the carina (24) may be computed. The distance information may provide an indication as to whether the tracheal tube (12) is properly placed within the trachea.
