Abstract:
A method for measuring the hole diameter of an optical fiber with holes, which measures the hole diameter of an optical fiber bare wire when the optical fiber bare wire with holes is manufactured by heating, melting, and wire-drawing an optical fiber preform with holes. The method comprises a step for continuously irradiating parallel light beams to the optical fiber bare wire with holes from the side of the optical fiber bare wire with holes, which has been obtained by the wire-drawing; a step in which a detection section continuously detects the forward scattered light generated by the irradiation of the parallel light beams; and a step for calculating the hole diameter using the correlation between the scattering intensity pattern of the detected forward scattered light and the hole diameter.
