Abstract

A platinum alloy catalyst PtXY, wherein X is nickel, cobalt, chromium, copper, titanium or manganese and Y is tantalum or niobium, characterised in that in the alloy the atomic percentage of platinum is 46-75at%, of X is 1-49at% and of Y is 1-35at%; provided that the alloy is not 66at%Pt20at%Cr14at%Ta or 50at%Pt, 25at%Co, 25at%Ta is disclosed. The catalyst has particular use as an oxygen reduction catalyst in fuel cells, and in particular in phosphoric acid fuel cells.

L'invention porte sur un catalyseur en alliage de platine PtXY, X étant le nickel, le cobalt, le chrome, le cuivre, le titane ou le manganèse et Y étant le tantale ou le niobium, caractérisé en ce que, dans l'alliage, le pourcentage atomique de platine est de 46 à 75 % atomique, celui de X est de 1 à 49 % atomique et celui de Y est de 1 à 35 % atomique, à condition que l'alliage ne soit pas 66 % atomique Pt, + 20 % atomique Cr, + 14 % atomique Ta, ni 50 % atomique Pt, + 25 % atomique Co, + 25 % atomique Ta. Le catalyseur a une utilisation particulière en tant que catalyseur de réduction d'oxygène dans des piles à combustible, et en particulier dans des piles à combustible à acide phosphorique.
