Abstract

The specification discloses a seal member for selectively completing a fluid passageway defined between an upstream member and a downstream member separated by an intermediate space, the seal member comprising an elongate stem portion dimensioned to be movably positionable in an opening defined through the upstream member between opposite first and second surfaces thereof, the elongate stem portion having provided at one end thereof a resiliency deformable, radially-extending flange and at the other end thereof a sealing face, and a fluid passageway defined through the stem portion between the flange and the sealing face. The flange is deformable under fluid pressure to increase the area of contact between the flange and the first surface of the upstream member and to simultaneously move the stem portion within the opening defined in the upstream member so as to bring the sealing face into sealing contact with an opposing surface of the downstream member across the intermediate space.

La présente invention porte sur un élément d'étanchéité pour fermer de manière sélective un passage de fluide entre un élément amont et un élément avant séparés par un espace intermédiaire, l'élément d'étanchéité comprenant une partie tige allongée, dimensionnée de sorte à pouvoir être positionnée de manière mobile dans une ouverture définie à travers l'élément amont entre des première et seconde surfaces opposées de celui-ci, la partie tige allongée étant pourvue au niveau de l'une de ses extrémités d'un rebord s'étendant radialement qui peut être déformé par élasticité et au niveau de l'autre extrémité, d'une face d'étanchéité ; et un passage de fluide défini à travers la partie tige entre le rebord et la face d'étanchéité. Le rebord peut être déformé sous la pression d'un fluide pour augmenter la zone de contact entre le rebord et la première surface de l'élément amont et pour déplacer en même temps la partie tige dans l'ouverture définie dans l'élément amont de sorte à amener la face d'étanchéité en contact d'étanchéité avec une surface opposée de l'élément aval à travers l'espace intermédiaire.
