Methods and systems for heating a body tissue region adjacent a body lumen with diseased and healthy portions using selective accumulation of energy in the artery tissue with or without knowledge of tissue topography. The method Includes positioning an energy delivery portion of a catheter body within the lumen adjacent the body tissue region to be heated, determining a pulse characteristic in response to a thermal property of a first tissue type and applying pulsed energy with the pulse characteristic from the energy delivery portion so as to therapeutically treat the second tissue type within the body tissue region by drawing heat from the first tissue type at a rate that avoids significant thermal damage to the first tissue type while building-up heat in the second tissue type.

La présente invention concerne des procédés et des systèmes pour chauffer une région de tissu corporel adjacente à une lumière corporelle avec des portions malades et saines en utilisant l’accumulation sélective d’énergie dans le tissu artériel avec ou sans connaissance de la topographie tissulaire. Le procédé comprend le positionnement d’une portion de distribution d’énergie d’un corps de cathéter dans la lumière adjacente à la région de tissu corporel à chauffer, la détermination d’une caractéristique d’impulsion en réponse à une propriété thermique d’un premier type de tissu et l’application d’énergie pulsée ayant la caractéristique d’impulsion depuis la portion de distribution d’énergie de manière à traiter thérapeutiquement le second type de tissu dans la région de tissu corporel en absorbant de la chaleur provenant du premier type de tissu à un taux qui évite des dommages thermiques significatifs au premier type de tissu tout en accumulant de la chaleur dans le second type de tissu.
