Abstract

An ablation device, including a catheter and an ablation element incorporating one or more balloons at the distal end of the catheter, has a continuous passageway extending through it from the proximal end of the catheter to the distal side of the expandable ablation element. The ablation device ablates tissue by subjecting it to ultrasound energy, cryogenic energy, chemical, laser beam, microwave, or radiation energy. A probe carrying electrodes is introduced through this passageway and deploys, under the influence of its own resilience, to a structure incorporating a loop which is automatically aligned with the axis of the expandable ablation device, so that minimal manipulation is required to place the probe. Pulmonary vein potential is monitored in real time via the electrodes. The probe may have an atraumatic tip with a ball formed at the leading edge. The atraumatic tip prevents any tissue damage such as perforation of heart wall.

L'invention concerne un dispositif d'ablation, comprenant un cathéter et un élément d'ablation incorporant un ou plusieurs ballons à l'extrémité distale du cathéter, qui présente un trajet continu s'étendant à travers celui-ci depuis l'extrémité proximale du cathéter jusqu'au côté distal de l'élément d'ablation expansible. Le dispositif d'ablation pratique l'ablation d'un tissu en le soumettant à une énergie ultrasonore, une énergie cryogénique, un produit chimique, un faisceau laser, des micro-ondes ou une énergie de rayonnement. Une sonde portant des électrodes est introduite à travers ce passage et se déploie, sous l'influence de sa propre élasticité, jusqu'à une structure incorporant une boucle qui est alignée automatiquement avec l'axe du dispositif d'ablation expansible, de sorte qu'une manipulation minimale est nécessaire pour placer la sonde. Un potentiel de veine pulmonaire est surveillé en temps réel par l’intermédiaire des électrodes. La sonde peut avoir une pointe atraumatique ayant une bille formée au niveau du bord d'attaque. La pointe atraumatique empêche une quelconque lésion des tissus, telle une perforation de la paroi du cœur.
