Disclosed is a method wherein esters or lactones can be respectively reduced into alcohols or diols in the presence of a group 8 (VIII) transition metal complex, a base and a hydrogen gas (H2). By suitably combining the amounts of the group 8 (VIII) transition metal complex and the base to be used, the pressure of the hydrogen gas and the reaction temperature, the reduction method can be extremely practical. This method is a useful alternative to hydride reduction, wherein a design of a highly active catalyst can be performed relatively easily, thereby assuring high productivity.

L'invention porte sur un procédé dans lequel les esters ou les lactones peuvent être respectivement réduits en alcools ou diols en présence d'un complexe de métal de transition de groupe 8 (VIII), d'une base et d'hydrogène gazeux (H2). Par combinaison appropriée des quantités du complexe de métal de transition de groupe 8 (VIII) et de la base à utiliser, la pression de l'hydrogène gazeux et la température de réaction, le procédé de réduction peut être extrêmement pratique. Ce procédé est une alternative utile à une réduction d'hydrures, dans laquelle une conception d'un catalyseur hautement actif peut être effectuée de façon relativement aisée, permettant ainsi d'assurer une productivité élevée.

8(VIII)族遷移金属錯体、塩基および水素ガス(H2)の存在下に、エステル類またはラクトン類を、それぞれアルコール類またはジオール類に還元することができる。8(VIII)族遷移金属錯体、塩基、塩基の使用量、水素ガスの圧力および反応温度の好適な組み合わせにより、極めて実用的な還元方法を提供できる。この方法は、ヒドリド還元の代替となり、高活性な触媒の設計が比較的容易に行え、高い生産性が期待できる、有用な方法である。
